Abstract

Separated crop material falls from an axial flow threshing and separating apparatus 10 (drum 14 in housing 12) on to a cleaning screen 24 in the form of a foraminous conveyor belt carrying chaff to the rear, assisted by a blower 26. Crop falling through the downstream, separating basket part 22 of the housing 12 is fed by a return device in the form of a conveyor 30, forwardly to the middle of the screen 24. The conveyor 30 may also be foraminous to assist cleaning. It and/or the screen 24 can be vertically vibrated to assist cleaning. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Cleaning device for combine harvesters The invention relates to a cleaning device for a combine harvester having an axial flow threshing and separating drum in a threshing and separating housing, below which there is provided a screen, which may be a drivable screen belt. One such device is described in German patent specification No. 2 015 584 and has a screen belt disposed below a threshing and separating drum housing. The crop material which falls from the downstream end of the housing cannot always be sufficiently cleaning as the crop material remains on the screen belt for an excessively short period of time.
According to the present invention there is provided a cleaning device for combine harvesters having an axial flow threshing and separating drum arranged in a threshing and separating housing, below which there is provided a cleaning screen, comprising a return device between the housing (10) and the screen and arranged to feed crop material falling through the downstream end of the housing back to a region of the screen under a more upstream part of the housing.
The return device makes it possible for in particu lathe crop material which is separated out at the downstream end of the housing to be conducted into the middle region of the screen so that the crop material can be more intensively cleaned, as it remains on the surface of the screen for a longer period of time. The return device can be a conveyor belt. Using a conveyor belt in the region of the downstream end of the threshing and cleaning device ensures that this crop material is also intensively cleaned. The conveyor belt can be arranged horizontally at an inclined angle.
In order to provide for an even more intensive cleaning action, it is advantageous for the conveyor belt and/or the screen to be mounted for oscillating movement. A very good cleaning action is also achieved if the conveyor belt is in the form of a screen belt whose through openings are somewhat larger than the through openings in the separating screen. It is also desirable for the conveyor belt to be controllable in respect of its speed and to be reversible in direction.
The invention is described in greater detail hereinafter with reference to an embodiment which is shown by way of examples in the sole Figure of the drawing.
Athreshing and separating apparatus 10 extends in the longitudinal direction of a combine harvester and includes a housing 12 in which a drum 14 is arranged. The drum comprises a forward, threshing portion 16 and a rearward, separating portion 18.
The threshing portion 16 is coaxially connected to the separating portion 18. The housing 10 has a threshing and separating basket 20 with numerous through openings 22. Part of the crop material which is threshed out in the housing 10 falls on to the forward part of a screen belt 24 which is driven by means of a drive arrangement (not shown). Cleaning air is blown over the screen belt 24 by means of an axial blower 26. The crop material which issues from the separating portion 18 is predominantly first passed on to a return device 28 which can be formed from a conveyor belt 30. Instead of the conveyor belt 30, it is also possible to use an inclined chute which conducts the crop material into the middle region of the screen belt 24. The conveyor belt 30 is driven in the opposite direction to the direction of movement of the conveyor belt 24.The conveyor belt 30 may be arranged so asto extend horizontally with respect to the surface on which the combine harvester stands, or it may be so arranged as to extend in a forwardly inclined direction, towards the screen belt 24.
The top run of the screen belt 24 may be accommodated for example in a horizontally extending guide member which, in the embodiment illustrated, is in the form of a guide rail 32 which is open towards the top run of the screen belt 24. For this purpose, the screen belt 24 may have slide rollers at its edge, the rollers being guided in the guide rail 32.
The top run of the conveyor belt 30 may also be guided in a similar guide rail. It is also possible for the two guide rails to be joined together by way of two parallelogram linkage assemblies and to be driven by way of a drive means, so that in this way, besides the horizontal direction of movement of the top run of the conveyor belt 30 and of the screen belt 24 respectively, the top runs may also be set in oscillation in a vertical direction. In this way it is possible to provide for an even more intensive cleaning action forthe crop material.
