Abstract

In the process for the biological treatment of waste water by causing the waste water to flow upwardly through, and fluidise, a bed of particulate material, water is withdrawn at a substantially constant rate from a first region at or adjacent to the upper surface of the fluidised bed and is returned to a second region of the fluidised bed situated at a lower level than said first region.
