Abstract

A grinding device for grinding the end surfaces of articles 2, such as cylinders or rings, comprises first and second grinding discs 1, 1' spaced apart by an amount substantially equal to the distance between the ends of the articles and having their axes 52, 54 offset from each other by a distance d so that the discs define an overlapped space S therebetween having an entrance apex A at which the area of overlap begins and an exit apex B at which the area of overlap ends. The discs are rotated in opposite directions. The articles 2 are delivered to the apex A and the rotation and speed of the discs are such that they are urged by the discs towards the discharge apex B as they are ground. The relative angular speeds of the two grinding discs determines whether the path of the workpieces through the overlapped zone S between the discs is straight or curved. In the latter case the entrance apex and discharge apex may be located on the same side of the two overlapped discs. <IMAGE>
