Abstract

An energy absorber for connection between a steering wheel (20) and a steering column (14) comprising upper and lower co-axially arranged connecting members (10, 11) that are adapted for co-axial connection to the steering wheel (20) and steering column (14), respectively, and a plurality of deformable strips (2) that are connected between the upper and lower connecting members (10, 11), each being formed with a first bend at an intermediate region (5) so that the strip is kinked outwards, and with a second bend (8) adjacent the upper connecting member (10) so that the respective end portion (9) of the strip is directed radially outwards, said respective end portion (9) of the strip being connected to the upper connecting member (10). Preferably, each of the deformable strips (2) decreases in width from the lower end to the upper end, each strip (12) is curved across its width about the axis of the absorber. <IMAGE>
