Abstract

A mechanical clutch designed to drive up to a predetermined torque and then to slip comprises two parts - a circular ratchet (Figure 4) having a circular series of radially-inwardly facing teeth 24 and a composite spring and detent member (Figure 3) comprising a pair of open bow-shaped frameworks with protrusions 20. Drive is normally conveyed from the ratchet to the spring and detent member through protrusions 20, but when the torque rises above a predetermined level the bow- shapes distort to release the protrusions 20 from the teeth. <IMAGE>
