Abstract

A blade positioning apparatus for use in motor graders that allows the operator to easily control the elevation, transverse inclination, and position of the scraper blade beneath the machine. The apparatus comprises a transverse beam 30 pivotally mounted, as at 102 to the upper surface of the support frame @ of the grader to allow partial rotation of the beam 30 about the main frame. Two double acting hydraulic lift cylinders 34 are spaced laterally of the main frame and are universally supported by the transverse beam 30, and also connected to the drawbar 8 of the grader. The drawbar 8 rotatably supports the scraper blade, and is swivelably fastened to the forward end of the grader by a ball and socket joint. A hydraulic shift cylinder 42 is secured between the drawbar and the transverse beam, and a releasable lock mechanism, e.g. a lock pin 126-see Fig. 8, secures the beam member at selected adjusted positions relative to the support frame. When the beam member is locked relative to the support frame, the hydraulic shift cylinder is used to laterally shift the drawbar beneath the support frame and the hydraulic lift cylinders are used to control the elevation and inclination of the scraper blade relative to the ground. The hydraulic shift cylinder is also used when the lock mechanism is released to rotate the transverse beam about the midpoint of the beam to a selected adjusted position. <IMAGE>
