Abstract

The bite alarm comprises a casing 1 on which a fishing rod is supported in a rod rest 2. The fishing line is looped around a wire antenna 5. Tightening of the line by a fish taking the hook moves the antenna to close a pair of electrical contacts 8 thereby operating a warning light 9 and buzzer 10 connected through the contacts 8 to a battery connector 11 and battery (not shown). The parts 8, 9, 10 and 11 are enclosed within the casing 1 and the antenna 5 passes through an aperture 6 in the casing. Rain water entering the aperture is intercepted before reaching the other parts by a baffle 12 and diverted to a drain hole 13. Rainwater running down the antenna 5 is prevented from reaching the contact 8 by a cranked portion 7 from which rain water drips onto the baffle 12. <IMAGE>
