Abstract

A two-way voice controlled radio system for use with a protective helmet, (10) Figure 1 (not shown). The system includes a transmitter 30-50 which is normally off, and a receiver 86-106 which is normally on. The transmitter includes a noise cancelling microphone, and an electronic switch which turns the transmitter on and the receiver off in response to an output from the microphone, and turns the transmitter off and the receiver on substantially immediately in response to the absence of a microphone output. Thus the system approximates two-way real-time communication by permitting one user to be interrupted by the speech of another. The system is designed primarily for far-field communication. <IMAGE>
