Abstract
An infra-red detection system, operable in two scanning modes, comprises first and second scanning means (mirror drum 1 and nodding mirror 2, Figure 1) for respectively effecting the line and frame components of scan and an array of infra-red detectors, wherein in a first mode of operation several line scans of a section of the field of view are made before rotation of the second scanning means to provide scans of an adjacent section and means are provided to accummulate the signals over said several line scans to provide an indication of any infra-red target in the field of view, and wherein the second mode of operation provides a conventional raster scan in order that the output signals may be directly displayed on a television monitor. <IMAGE>
