Abstract

A flagging gauge (30) determines the location of the flat face (14) of a turbine wheel (10) relative to the lathe or other cutting machine. This location determines by a servo-cylinder (36) a reference point for a cutting tool (40) carried by the lathe. In this manner the tool assumes a desired distance (d) from the turbine wheel face (14) when commencing its cut on a shaft (16) axially extending from the wheel in spite of variations in dimension of the workpiece and of the workpiece position on the lathe. <IMAGE>
