Abstract

An apparatus for withdrawing frozen confections from a freezing mould comprises a pair of resilient needles (12) for each pocket of the mould, the needles being mounted on a boom (7) and being guided along curved arcs by guides (9, 10, 11) mounted on a plate (8) carried by an arm (4). With the needles (12) in the retracted position the boom (7) and arm (4) are lowered together until the tips of the needles are spaced slightly above the frozen confection in the mould pocket. The boom (7) is then lowered while the arm (4) is held stationary to project the needles into the confection in directions (14) inclined to the vertical. The boom and arm are raised together and confection is withdrawn by the needles (12). At a discharge station the boom (7) is raised relative to the arm (4) to retract the needles and release the frozen confection. The needles may be stiff and guided by rollers (Fig. 6). <IMAGE>
