Abstract

A thermoplastic contact adhesive is prepared from a polymer and a "sticky-making component" by reacting at 80-140 DEG C with two compounds which cause cross-linking or grafting reactions to occur, one being unstable at above 140 DEG C, the other being more thermally stable. The two cross-linking/ grafting reagents may be present in the mixture from the start, or the thermally stable one may be added after the initial reaction of the polymer with the thermally unstable one. Of the cross-linking/grafting reagents claimed, the unstable ones are (specified) peroxides, isocyanates, the trichloromelamines, benzotrichloride and (specified) azo compounds; the stable ones are phenolic resins, terpenic phenolic resins and thiurams.
