Abstract

The measuring faces of known internal diameter micrometers are either made of steel and susceptible to wear and damage, or are of steel coated with cemented carbide, in which case they are difficult to form. These disadvantages are overcome by having a pair of steel jaws 5 and 6 and a pair of measuring members 9 and 10 in the form of inset bars of cemented carbide. Holes 7 and 8 are formed in the end of each of the jaws 5 and 6, and each hole extends at right-angles to the axis of the spindle 4. One end of each measuring member 9 and 10 is fixed within a respective one of the holes, whilst the other ends of the measuring members project outwardly from said ends of the jaws 5 and 6. <IMAGE>
