Abstract
Blurring caused by vibration of optical instruments is minimised by the use of an optical erecting system all or part of which is mounted inside the instrument for relative movement therein to allow the elements of the erecting system to maintain their relationship with respect to the instantaneous optical axis defined by the object and image and the instantaneous optical axis defined by the object and the effective positions of the instrument objective, so that any angular displacement of the optical axis of the instrument is converted into parallel displacement of the axis, the positioning of the optical elements of the erecting system causing any shift of the image to be counteracted and nullified by the inversion of movement of rays having passed through the erecting system. <IMAGE>
