Abstract

The formation of colour lakes from basic dyestuffs and base exchanging silicates is effected by mixing the silicate and dyestuff with a quantity of water insufficient to dissolve the dyestuff and heating. Substances to promote the subdivision of the silicates such as alkalies or protective colloids, may also be added; the reaction may be carried out at higher temperatures and under pressure. The products may contain up to 80 per cent of colour. An example is given of the production of a lake from methylene blue and a base exchanging zeolite. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) is not limited to the use of water as a solvent. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
