Abstract

Each of the ends of a slat which is to be inserted into a slot in a wooden stile has at least one corner cropped therefrom before being compressed to a wedge-shape. After compression and immediately prior to insertion the ends are moistened to cause them to swell in the slots thereby forming a tight fit.
