Abstract

In a projection printer for producing half-tone reproductions of copy, an image 92 of the copy is projected, and light probes 88, 90 placed on highlight and shadow regions of the image. These give readings on meters 94, 96, which are calibrated by means of potentiometers 98 in terms of percentage dot areas produced by a given half-tone producing screen. Further potentiometers for other screens can be selected by switches 99. The exposure mechanism of the printer is adjusted until the readings on the meter show the desired maximum and minimum dot densities. Other features are also described including a copyholding magazine (Figs. 2 and 3 not shown); a mask with openable doors to select the area of a piece of photographic material to be exposed (Fig. 4 not shown); and a means for automatically adjusting the magnification of the image in accordance with recorded information associated with the copy (Fig. 9 not shown). <IMAGE>
