Abstract

A disc brake comprises a rigid caliper 1 which straddles the peripheral edge of a rotatable disc 4, and friction pads 7, 8 for engagement with the disc are located in the caliper 1 which is carried by a drag-taking arm 13. The arm 13 is connected at one end to the stationary part by a single pivot pin 14 which pivots the arm 13 for movement about an axis normal to the axis of the disc 4, and the arm 13 is coupled to the caliper by means of a spherical joint 15. The pad 7 is applied directly to the disc 4 by an actuator 11 which is provided in adjacent limb 3 of the caliper 1, and the pad 8 is applied to the disc 4 by the reaction on the caliper 1 which causes the caliper 1 to move with respect to the disc 4. <IMAGE>
