Abstract

A process for making a magnesia- carbon refractory brick comprises forming a refractory mixture containing a dense, sintered magnesia (70-95 wt%), graphite (8-20 wt%), and a phosphate binding agent (1.5-2.5 wt% as P2O5), pressing the mixture into bricks and drying the so-formed bricks. The bricks produced possess a high thermal conductivity and may be used in furnaces in which molten sags are produced.
