Abstract

Apparatus for hoisting a container on to a vehicle, provides means for detecting misalignment between the vehicle and the container during loading. Usually the container is provided with a lifting bar and the vehicle is provided with a hook on the end of a lifting arm. Further, the vehicle usually includes rollers at the rear of the vehicle over which the container is pulled. According to one aspect, the invention provides means for detecting misalignment between the lifting bar on the container and the hook on the lifting arm, while, in accordance with another aspect, the invention provides means for detecting lateral displacement of the container relative to the rollers. Preferably the two systems are provided in combination, and the arrangement is such that lifting is inhibited when either system detects misalignment. Further the inhibition may be limited to a particular range of angular positions of the lifting arm. <IMAGE>
