Abstract

The apparatus is particularly applicable to the fetus where EEG signals contain a component of those signals which give rise to electrocardiographs (ECG). In the apparatus ECG signals picked up by electrodes A1, B1 and C1 in an electrode assembly forming part of the apparatus may be eliminated by using a two gang potential divider which provides two signals having equal ECG components, the two signals being subtracted from one another to provide a signal representing EEG. An automatic circuit for removing E.C.G. signals (Fig. 7a not shown) is also disclosed. The electrodes may be concentric annular electrodes (Figs. 1 & 2 not shown), for example, or relatively small disc electrodes A1, B1 and C1 spaced apart at the vertices of an equilateral triangle (Figs. 3 & 4, 8a & 8b not shown). <IMAGE>
