Abstract

201,653. Bicknell, R. S. May 5, 1922. Slide rules. - A device for use in finding the price of clean wool per pound when the cost of grease wool and the percentage loss of weight during the process of cleaning are known, comprises an envelope 1 of celluloid having an elongated central aperture 11 on each side along the edges of which are marked graduations 13, 15 representing the prices of grease wool, and a slide 3 fitting within the envelope, thumb-notches 5 being provided so that the slide may be grasped and moved. Graduations 19 on each side of the slide representing the percentage shrinkage of wool are visible through the apertures 11, and a scale representing the prices of clean wool is arranged in parts 33, 39, 45, 51 so as to be visible through apertures 35, 41, 47, 53 respectively, the rest of this scale being similarly arranged on the reverse side of the slide, to be viewed through similar apertures. In use the graduation representing the percentage shrinkage is brought opposite the price of the grease wool, when the price of the clean wool will be read opposite an index in one of the small apertures. The scales that are read together may be coloured similarly, i.e. scales 13, 33, 39 may be red while 15, 45, 51 are black.
