Abstract

201,640. Baker, Sons, &. Perkins, Ltd., J., and Prescott, W. E. May 3, 1922. Feeding and measuring; extrusion machines ; stream-cutting machines; delivery. - Chocolate &c. is divided into measured portions for forming bars &c. in a machine comprising one or more pairs of Intermittently operated rollers e, Fig. 3, disposed in a jacketed container b, each pair of rollers having closely intermeshing teeth of large dimensions and both rollers of a pair being given similar intermittent rotational movements. The plastic material is fed on to a conveyer a by the rollers through a die c altenately opened and shut by a perforated slide c<2>. The container b is made in two parts b<1>, b<2> hinged together on a pivot d and locked by a bolt d<1>. The rollers e may be provided with grooves to receive partition plates which thus divide the container into a number of compartments. The various parts of the machine are operated from the main drive shaft g as shown in Fig. 1. The conveyer a, carried on sprockets f, f<1> and tensioning roller f<2>, is advanced intermittently by a pawl g<4> operated through gearing g<10>, g<11>, cam g<1>, and adjustable lever and link g<2>, g<5>. The rollers e are rotated through gearing j - - j<5> operated through the adjustable lever system i<1>, i<2>, i<3> by a crank i on the shaft g<12> which also carries a cam k arranged to reciprocate the slide c<2> through levers k<1>. The material in the container b is agitated by a paddle h operated through a rod h<3> from an arm m on the lever i<2>, while discharge rollers are oscillated by an arm l<2> reciprocated by a crank disc and arm l<3>, l<4>.
