Abstract

Sweets to be sorted are conveyed one behind the other along longitudinal troughs 5a, Fig. 4, formed in rib portions 5b of a vibratory separation conveyor 5, Fig. 1. The cross-section of each rib is narrowed along a downstream portion of the conveyor so as to define a sorting gap 5d, Fig. 5, between adjacent ribs. A guide 6 extending longitudinally of each trough is adjustably arranged at a distance x, corresponding to the thickness of an accurately sized sweet, from an oblique bottom surface of the trough, and at a horizontal distance y, from the edge of that oblique surface, which is slightly smaller than the distance of the centre of gravity of an accurately sized sweet from the guide 6. When the sweets being conveyed reach the gaps 5d, accurately sized sweets, due to the position of their centre of gravity, topple over and drop through the gaps into a chute 7. Undersize sweets remain the troughs and are delivered by the conveyor to a removal shaft 8 together with oversize sweets which cannot fall through the gaps 5d. <IMAGE>
