Abstract

A polepiece for a phonograph pick-up cartridge comprises a plurality of piece parts (42, 44) spaced relative to one another in a common plane with an overlay (46) superimposed on the piece parts to maintain them in predetermined positions. The piece parts (42, 44) are preferably made of a stack of laminations, the overlay (46) comprising one or more further laminations of non-magnetic material. The polepiece forms part of a magnetic core wherein a coil core wound with an electrical winding is interengaged with the polepiece limbs, for example by the interdigitating of fingers (50) on the respective elements. A pair of such magnetic cores are aligned at right-angles to define an elongate working gap channel to receive the magnet-armature of an armature-stylus assembly. <IMAGE>
