Abstract

A synchronizing mechanism (46) includes a coupling sleeve (30) with internal teeth (30a), a clutch gear (38) having external teeth (38a) and a frusto-conical external teeth (38b), a blocking ring (42') having external teeth (42'a) and a frusto-conical internal surface (42'b), the frusto- conical internal surface of the blocking ring being brought into braking contact with the frusto-conical external surface of the clutch gear to accomplish synchronization between the clutch gear and the coupling sleeve when the blocking ring is moved toward the clutch gear by the coupling sleeve. The thickness (c') of each of the teeth (42'a) of the blocking ring is less than that (c) of each of the teeth (38a) of the clutch gear, so that the blocking ring in its neutral condition is arranged very close to the clutch gear. <IMAGE>
