Abstract

To provide for easy interchangeability of collets and for rapid tool depth adjustment in a short chuck an adjustable adapter (1) is provided at its lower end with an internal lock (4) for a collet (5) which grips an inserted tool (13). The collet (5) is tightened by a closer sleeve (17) acted on by a pressure screw (21). A depth adjustment screw (19) threaded into sleeve (17) determines the depth of tool (13) in the adapter and a threadedly adjustable stop collar (24) determines the depth of the adapter in the machine tool. <IMAGE>
