Abstract

A domestic mixer comprises a base (16) on which is mounted bowl (18) for rotation about its vertical axis, a column (24) extends from the base (16) and carries a head (26) which supports a beater (10), the head (26) being pivotable about a horizontal axis (30) between a work position (Figure 1) in which whisks (12, 14) of the beater (10) are within the bowl (18) and a rest position. A drive for the whisks and bowl includes a driven gear (44) and a driving gear (48) arranged within the heat (26) in engagement with each other is provided to rotate the bowl, the driven gear (44) engaging a toothed wheel (38) carried by the whisk (12) closest to the wall of the bowl (18). The driving gear (48) has a toothed hub (50) which engages teeth (56) provided on the outer surface of the wall (39) of the bowl, a guide boss 60 being provided on the head to engage the inner rim surface of the bowl to maintain positive engagement between the driving gear 48 and the teeth 56 on the outer rim of the bowl during operation. <IMAGE>
