Abstract

A self-supporting sock comprises flexible non-resilient support means disposed in at least one zone of the sock and extending up the leg portion of the sock from the ankle part thereof to the top of the leg portion. In the embodiment illustrated, the support means is formed by two lengths 1 of non-stretch textile ribbon adhered to opposite insides of the leg portion 2 of the sock. Alternatively, the support means may comprise a non-stretch textile panel knitted into each side of the sock, linen thread stitched up the leg portion on each side, flexible cement or adhesive applied to each side, or thread or yarn stitched or knitted into each side of the sock and treated so as to stiffen and/or weld the thread or yarn. <IMAGE>
