Abstract

An air conditioning system for a room comprises apparatus comprising (a) an inlet (1) and an outlet (11) communicating with the external atmosphere and an entry (8) and an exit (9) communicating with the room (in both cases when the system is installed); (b) a fan (3) or other means for producing in a first mode an inward current of air from the inlet to the entry and an outward current of air from the exit to the outlet, and in a second mode an internal current of air from the exit to the entry; (c) first heat transfer means such as a thermal wheel (12) operable in the first mode to transfer heat between the outward and inward currents; and (d) second heat transfer means, preferably a heat pump 4, operable in both modes to heat or to cool the inward current or the internal current as the case may be. <IMAGE>
