Abstract

This invention relates to novel sulphite bleachable dyes suitable as antihalation or acutance dyes which have the following formula: <IMAGE> in which Q is the part which confers bleachability to the dye and the group R2-R3 alters the colour of the dye. Q is a group of formula II <IMAGE> where each of W and Y are hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted cyclo alkyl or optionally substituted aryl or together represent the atoms necessary to complete a 5- or 6-membered ring-system. The group R2-R3 may be the residue of a colour developer. R2 is either =CH-(CH=CH)n-, n being 0, 1 or 2, or -N=.
