Abstract

Beads are produced from bitumen, hardened extract or wax by forming droplets of an aqueous emulsion of the starting material containing also a thickener (which is polymethyl vinyl ether, a cellulose derivative, a polyvinyl alcohol, an anionic polysaccharide, an alkali metal silicate, or an alkali metal alginate) and maintaining the droplets in contact with an aqueous polyvalent coagulant solution such as 0.1-10% calcium chloride.
