Abstract

The invention relates to a novel composition for preventing or inhibiting the infection of wood raw materials by fungi causing sapstain, superficial mould and decay. The composition comprises a mixture of an optionally substituted dithiocarbamate of an alkali metal, ammonia or substituted ammonia and an alkali metal borate. The mixture exhibits a synergistic fungicidal activity and has the advantage over known anti-stain wood-preservative compounds that it is relatively non- toxic and water-soluble. The composition may be formulated as a dry formulation, as a solution or as a gel and may include an alkaline salt, an antioxidant or a gelling agent.
