Abstract

The invention concerns iodophores. These are the products of reaction of iodine or other iodine- supplying compounds with an organic polycarbonate which is itself prepared by reacting an organic hydroxy compound acting as initiator (especially an alkyl phenol or polyalkoxylated derivative thereof), with an alkylene oxide and carbon dioxide. The iodophores are useful as bacetericides.
