Abstract

In the composition, the film- forming material consists of (a) 30- 85% by volume of disperse phase particles of size 0.01-20 mu m of which >/=50% are polymer microparticles, stably dispersed in (b) 70-15% by volume of a liquid continuous phase which is capable of curing by a condensation polymerisation reaction, the total volume of components (a) and (b) being 100% and the disperse phase being capable of taking part in the curing reaction. A dispersing agent is employed, the molecule of which contains (i) a polymeric component solvatable by the continuous-phase liquid and (ii) another component which is relatively non-solvatable thereby and which can associate with the microparticle surface or which can react with the microparticle polymer. The composition may take the form of a "one-pack" or "two-pack" system. The composition can have a very high solids content and makes possible the production of thick films free from surface shrinkage.
