Abstract

Compositions which comprise a polycarboxylic acid (or hydrolysable precursor) and an ion-leachable silicate or alumino silicate and which harden in the presence of water to form a cement include a metal salt to accelerate the hardening process. Suitable salts include those of various polyvalent metals (e.g. Al, Cd, Mg, Hg and Zr) as well as silver salts and fluorides. The compositions may also include a complexing agent, e.g. one containing a fluoride ligand or a chelating agent.
