Abstract

The invention relates to aerofoils, particularly helicopter rotor blades, and is concerned with alleviating vibration and other problems occurring as a result of varying load. Accordingly, an aerofoil has a tip section 14 formed at least in part of composite structure wherein a substantial number of fibres are skew to the spanwise direction resulting in the direction of principal bending stiffness being diverted away from the spanwise direction. Twist is thereby induced under certain loading conditions, the degree of twist varies with load and is arranged for example to alleviate vibration. <IMAGE>
