Abstract

An electrostatic copier comprises a bank 5 of electrolytic capacitors mounted in a module which is easily accessible, and which may be removable, the capacitors being provided with a plurality of discharge resistors R1, R2 in order to ensure that they are rendered harmless on all occasions on which access to them may be required, such as for routine maintenance and repair. The resistors are connected to discharge the capacitors when a securing screw for the module is undone, the action of undoing the screw releasing a switch to connect the resistors across the capacitors. The mains contactor for the copier includes a further switch which is arranged to connect the resistors across the capacitors, this switch being closed when the contactor main contacts are open. Bleed resistors R5, R6 are also incorporated, and the flash tube is triggered whenever the apparatus is switched off and to discharge the capacitors. <IMAGE>
