Abstract

A socket has two attachable housing parts 11, 13 containing a grooved 14 collet 12. The housing has an opening 15 for insertion of a ribbed 6 bar 1 and the collet is flexible. The collet tapers so that the grooves further from opening 15 are closer to central axis of symmetry 30 than grooves nearest opening 15; which means they lock more deeply with ribbed bar 1. Ideally the variance in the distance of the grooves from the central axis is the result of a higher radial pressure further from opening 15. The housing can have external indentations formed on it. the collet and housing may have frusto-conical camming faces so that a force on the bar away from the socket makes the collet grip tighter. The bar 1 can comprise a central nylon rod around which an annular overmould of a different material is formed.
