Abstract

The method comprises providing a solid coolant, and pressing the solid coolant into contact with the grinding wheel. The apparatus includes a support (22) for the solid coolant (24) and a piston (23) to bring the solid coolant, when supported by the support, into contact with the grinding wheel (20). The solid coolant is preferably ice. Liquid lubricant may be supplied through channels in the solid lubricant. <IMAGE>
