Abstract

An apparatus (12) for handling orders for financial instruments (A, B) in a financial trading system (10), which trading system (10) comprises at least a first and a second order book (14, 16) for a first and second financial instrument (A, B) respectively. The apparatus (12) further comprises a contingency order book unit (18) configured to control trading of a contingency order of a plurality of financial instruments (A, B), and a monitoring unit (19) configured to test a contingency order (A+B), wherein the contingency order book unit (18) is configured to monitor opportunities to trade a contingency order (A+B) and test if the contingency order (A+B) can be traded or cannot be traded in the order books (14, 16), which are locked during the test; the order books (14, 16) are configured to provide a test response message indicating if the contingency order (A+B) can be traded or cannot be traded in the order books (14, 16); and the contingency order book (18) is configured to update the contingency order (A+B) with the traded volume according to an evaluation of the test response message. The present invention also relates to a method and system for handling orders for financial instruments. The apparatus; system and method shorten the latency of contingency order handling by introducing a feature that handles the interaction between the order books that are involved in an attempt to trade a contingency order.
