Abstract
A method of processing seismic data comprises receiving R1 seismic data comprising a plurality of seismic traces that are spatially distributed across a region; assigning R2 each trace to a respective one of a plurality of cells that are spatially regularly distributed across the region; for each of the plurality of cells, constructing R4 a regularly spaced data set from the traces assigned to the cell itself and a number of neighbouring cells by performing a sparse wavenumber inversion; and transforming R5 the output of the inversion into the time-space domain to obtain a spatially regular data set. The seismic data, which may be zero offset seismic data, may be spatially sparsely distributed and/or irregularly distributed across the region. The received seismic data may be non-migrated data. A likelihood term in the inversion may have a Gaussian distribution. The method may include a LASSO optimisation.
