Abstract

The analytical method, which is based on the relationship between the amount of certain haemoglobins in blood and the blood sugar condition, comprises eluting haemolysed blood through a column containing, as chromatography medium, particles of an ion-exchange resin (such as a methacrylic acid/divinyl benzene copolymer or a cellulose derivative), spectrometrically analysing the eluate so as to obtain a numerical value A corresponding to the haemoglobin-A1 content of the haemolysate and spectrometrically determining a numerical value B corresponding to the total of the haemoglobin components of the haemolysate, the ratio A:B giving a numerical indication of a blood sugar condition. The method is quick, simple, accurate and suitable for routine repetition.
