Abstract

A mooring line monitor comprises an elongate main body 10, a protective shroud 21 and 22, at least one operational condition sensor (35, Fig 3), at least one acoustic transmitter 48, and a source of electrical power for powering the operation of the sensor and transmitter. The main body has at opposite first 8 and second 9 ends respectively a first mooring line connection and a second mooring line connection and between these connections an intermediate portion 18 of the main body. The mooring line connections are configured for connection to respective underwater mooring lines such that, in use, the intermediate section is under tension between the first and second ends when the mooring line is under load. The, or each, operational condition sensor is attached to the intermediate section and linked to the acoustic transmitter. The protective shroud extends around the intermediate portion of the main body in order to encompass and protect the sensor, the transmitter and the source of electrical power.
