Abstract

A slurry dewatering device comprises a drum (3) mounted for rotation about an axis of rotation; one or more helical baffles (4) mounted on an inside surface of the drum; a slurry inlet (6) at an inlet end (5) of the drum and a slag outlet at an outlet end (11) of the drum. The drum is mounted such that its axis of rotation is level and rotation can be at a varied speed. In one embodiment the pitch of the helical baffle can vary over the length of the device, so too can the internal and external thread diameters. In another embodiment the helical baffle can comprise slots along its length. In yet another embodiment there can be a second helical baffle forming a double helix. The device may also comprise a mesh screen (8) or a pair of mesh screens with different thread counts to filter the slurry, with mesh cleaning nozzles mounted outside the drum.
