Abstract

A separating apparatus comprises a first cyclonic separating unit and a second cyclonic separating unit arranged a first axis (Y, fig 3), The second cyclonic separating unit includes a plurality of cyclones 50 grouped into at least a first set 70 arranged about the first axis (Y, fig 3) and a second set 72 arranged about the first axis (Y, fig 3). Each of the cyclones 50 in the first set 70 defines a longitudinal axis (C1, fig 3) and includes a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, and each of the cyclones 50 in the second set 72 defines a longitudinal axis (C2, fig 3), and includes a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet. The fluid inlets of the first set 70 are spaced along the axis (Y, fig 3) from the fluid inlets of the second set 72, and wherein the cyclones 50 of the first set 70 are arranged so as to extend about some or all of the cyclones 50 in the second set 72, such that the second set 72 are at least partially nested within the first set 70, wherein the longitudinal axis (C1, fig 3) of each of the cyclones 50 in the first set 70 defines a first included angle (θ1, fig 3) with the first axis (Y, fig 3), and wherein the longitudinal axis (C2, fig 3) of each of the cyclones in the second set 72 defines a second included angle (θ2, fig 3) with the first axis (Y, fig 3), wherein the second included angle(θ2, fig 3) is less than the first included angle (θ1, fig 3).
