Abstract

A system and method of validating an identity card, comprises: producing a digital image of the identity card; transmitting this image electronically to a remote verification centre; testing the image against a pre-stored image of the identity card in order to produce a test result signal; and transmitting the test result signal electronically. The testing, or comparing, may be carried out electronically or by a human operator. The image may be divided into segments, with each segment being tested separately, possibly at a different remote location. The comparisons of the image segments could be carried out by remote players of computer games.
