Abstract
A scroll fluid machine such as a pump or an expander has an orbiting scroll wrap 1 and a pair of fixed scrolls 2, 3. The orbiting scroll is supported by a hollow orbiting shaft 1D which extends through the fixed scrolls and is mounted at its ends by orbiting bearings 12, 14 fixed to eccentric portions 6A, 6B of a rotating shaft. A self-rotation prevention mechanism, such as cooperating fixed key grooves and orbiting grooves joined by an Oldhams ring, is provided at one end of the orbiting shaft 1D. Preferably a portion of the shaft between the orbiting bearings is coaxial with the rotation axis and in one arrangement there are also two balance weights 22, 23 secured to the rotating shaft. The use of the hollow orbiting shaft extending through the fixed scrolls is designed to reduce the temperature to which the orbiting bearings are exposed.
