Abstract
Fluidised bed equipment for fluidising coal particles to facilitate combustion thereof for heating a boiler comprises a hollow, box-like body 10 divided into three compartments 11 to 13 which are separately supplied with fluidising air via inlets 16 to 18. The upper surface of the body 10, upon which a fluidised bed is established, is defined by a multiplicity of rectangular plates 27 which rest on side edges of the body 10 and on support plates 28 carried by intermediate posts 29. The plates 27 have many apertures therethrough and are spaced apart from each other so that they can expand and contract relative to each other. Cover strips 31 and 40 serve to prevent passage of air between and around the plates 27 and are retained in position by cover plates 35 secured to shanks 37 on studs 36 so that the strips themselves are not engaged. The cover strips 31 and 40 thus prevent the plates 27 from lifting but permit relative expansion and contraction thereof. <IMAGE>
