Abstract

A photogalvanic cell comprises a first electrode and a second electrode spaced apart from the first electrode, an aqueous medium arranged between the first and second electrodes and including a lyotropic liquid crystal existing in a structured phase such that the aqueous medium includes at least one surfactant pseudo-phase and at least one aqueous sub-phase, a photoactive first redox couple contained in the surfactant pseudo-phase and a second redox couple contained in the aqueous sub-phase and at least one electrolyte contained in the aqueous sub-phase and, optionally, at least one electrolyte contained in the surfactant pseudo-phase.
